OVATION AWARDS: Sunday Januaray 27th, 2008 THANKYOU TO ALL WHO VOTED
APPLAUSE! Musicals Society is calling for nominations for the annual OVATION Awards, celebrating outstanding performance and production of musical theatre in the lower mainland in 2007.
The general public is invited to participate in voting for their favourites in 20 categories, from the 47 musical theatre (including amateur, professional, operetta, and panto's) productions presented in the lower mainland in 2007.
Specific awards include outstanding new work, production, performance, direction, music direction, choreography, design, and newcomer. Special awards are also given for “significant contribution in 2007” as well as an award for “major contribution” awarded to a company or member of the community who has contributed a minimum of 10 years to the development, promotion and continuation of musical theatre in the lower mainland.
Voting is collected ONLINE at www.applausemusicals.com for only 15 days from January 1 to January 15 at midnight. Nominees are announced Friday January 18.
Awards are presented at an awards ceremony on Sunday January 27th at the Vancouver Academy of Music (1270 Chestnut Street) Reception 6PM followed by a two hour revue including performances from various productions and special guest presenters for each of the awards to follow at 7PM. The annual OVATION Awards were created in 2004 to recognize the achievements & contributions in the Lower Mainland’s musical theatre community. The awards are produced by APPLAUSE! Musicals Society, a non-profit charitable organization. The awards ceremony is the society's signature fundraising event, raising money for financial awards and various programming throughout the year.
